Ozone and hydroponics
Grow healthier hydroponic plants using ozone
The use of ozone in hydroponics
Hydroponics is an established method of growing plants and vegetation that brings a range of advantages over traditional techniques. Negating the need for soil entirely, hydroponics uses a direct flow of water to the plants that results in increased growth of up to 30%, largely due to a smaller roots system at the base.
The result is an increased population of plants in a more condensed area, and as usually greenhouse grown, the process allows for year-round production regardless of environmental factors including weather. It can even mean that people can grow their five a day in their spare room.
This system, whilst innovative, is not without its flaws. There is an issue with the smell that is emitted. The humidity of the plants creates a distinct lack of air circulation causing the area to become very hot, and produce a number of unpleasant odours.
The strength of the smell produced means traditional air fresheners are just not up to the job. One of the many benefits of ozone is that, when created with a generator, you can determine the strength required. For powerful odours such as those emitted via hydroponics, a plug in generator is recommended. This gets rid of the odours not just in the room itself, but the smells that permeate outside, an unwanted side effect of hydroponics.
There are more advantages to using ozone as your primary method in hydroponics hygiene. It is flexible, as you can use it in the room, outside of the room, and even via air ducts. It is invisible and effortless to distribute. Rather than risk damaging your plants with chemicals found in traditional air fresheners, ozone will actually help reduce mould and bacteria that could be harmful to them.
The use of ozone within hydroponics can also help to purify the plants’ water and balance the PH levels. Bacteria feed off of hydrogen sulphide, causing PH levels to rise beyond a desirable limit, but our machines can combat this. This in turn allows the positive effects of fertilisers to occur, so that your plants flourish.
The clear choice for dealing with such a large scale issue, ozone spreads effortlessly through the area eliminating odours, killing bacteria and purifying the air around us.
